Guide to Upgrading Device using Cisco Catalyst Center (DNAC) SWIM: A Step-by-Step Process

Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC) is a complete management and control platform for your network, designed, created, and implemented by Cisco. 

This single, extensible software platform includes integrated tools for network management, automation, virtualization, analytics and assurance, security, and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and can also interface with your business-critical tools.

Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC) is the network management system, foundational controller, and analytics platform at the heart of Cisco’s intent-based network. Beyond device management and configuration

Lets start with SWIM process through 
Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC)

Note Device can be Switch/WLC/Router (Here in our case, it is a WLC)

⭐Step 1: Take backup of current config and switch port status

⭐Step 2 : In 
Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC) ,select switch  under Provision --> Inventory and click Software Image--> Image Update

⭐Step 3: Check Update Readiness Report and make sure no errors exit and click Next

Step 4: Once Analysis is done, you will see the below image at distribute level, You can also add the new checks if you want Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC) to run as Pre and post checks as shown below (2nd Step)

Step 5: As we can add some of the more commands that Cisco Catalyst Center(DNAC) will run in Pre and post checks, you can see as shown below at Activation level ( 3rd Step)

Step 6: This is important, when do you want this upgrade ? now or you schedule some date and time for that ( putting that in specific time/downtime)

Step 7: Once click next, you can track the status of the request under "Image update Status". Here we are checking for C9800 Which is a WLC.

Step 8: Verify switch version once complete.
Step 9: Verify switch ports are back up as pre change and do QA testing.
