Cisco router in Cloud Deployment: CSR1000v to C8000v upgrade
Cisco router in Cloud Deployment: CSR1000v to C8000v upgrade
Customers would be able to transfer their workloads to a different DC that is virtualized on a hypervisor platform due to the CSR. In that data center, the CSR would then serve as a CPE device.
The life of the CSR eventually ends with the introduction and acquisition of SD-WAN and the rapid growth of IOS-XE 17.x. The most recent software version, 17.03.4a (IOS-XE Amsterdam), was made available in July 2021. Customers are advised to switch to the recently released Catalyst 8000v, which is likewise based on the IOS-XE platform. The C1000v's license support will terminate in 2024.
Fig 1.1 - Upgrade from CSR1000v to C8000v
The transition from the CSR1000v to the C8Kv has been made quite simple by Cisco. A CSR may simply be upgraded to a C8Kv! That sounds simple, doesn't it?
Lets check our current router
You must update to version 17.3.4a, the most recent version available for the C1000v, in order to overcome issue. After that, you can proceed to minimum version of C8000v which is "c8000v-universalk9.17.06.03a.SPA.bin"
So if you have higher version of C8000v, it will not show up when you are trying to upgrade CSR1000v, so first step is to upgrade your CSR1000v to "csr1000v-universalk9.17.03.04a.SPA.bin" and then download a C8000v image of "c8000v-universalk9.17.06.03a.SPA.bin" and upload to the vManage.
So when you uploaded the image if C8000v to vManage and also upgraded the CSR1000v to "csr1000v-universalk9.17.03.04a.SPA.bin" now its time to upgrade the CSR1000v to the next version and that is to "c8000v-universalk9.17.06.03a.SPA.bin"
Once upgrade done and router reboots, you will see that device come up with C8000v routes as SKU which is what we required.
