VMware Velocloud SDWAN components : Edge, Gateway and VCO

Today I am going to talk about the three main components of the Velocloud sdwan solution. The solution consists of Vmware Velocloud Edge, Cloud Network and the Orchestrator.

Velocloud Edge
Velocloud Edge is a physical router at the customer end which is act as a first entry point to the SDWAN infrastructure. Velocloud Edge is responsible for packet steering via WAN network. The WAN network have various WAN links which can be MPLS, VPLS, Ethernet, Internet, 4G/5G networks.

VMware Velocloud SD-WAN Edges are zero-touch enterprise-class appliances that provide secure optimized connectivity to private, public and hybrid applications, compute and virtualized services. VMware SD-WAN Edges perform deep application recognition, application and packet steering, performance metrics and end to end quality of service in addition to hosting virtual network function (VNF) services.

Velocloud Orchestrator
Velocloud Orchestrator is the control plane used to create policy management, It also provides the visibility into network & element operation. Velocloud Orchestrator is a Source of intelligence and the main component of the SDWAN solution.

VMware Velocloud SDWAN incorporates a distributed network of service gateways deployed at top tier cloud datacenters around the world, providing scalability, redundancy and on-demand flexibility. VMware SD-WAN Gateways provide optimized data paths to all applications, branches and datacenters along with the ability to deliver network services from the cloud.

VeloCloud Gateway
Velocloud Edge sends the packet to the Velocloud gateway and Velocloud Gateway forward packets to their final destination. It protects the traffic through the DMPO tunnels which we discuss earlier as well.

The VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator provides centralized enterprise-wide installation, configuration and real-time monitoring in addition to orchestrating the data flow through the cloud network. The VMware SD-WAN Orchestrator enables one-click provisioning of virtual services in the branch, the cloud, or the enterprise datacenter.
