Automation, Assurance and Telemetry in the Campus : "Cisco DNA Center Vs Arista Cloud Vision"

Today I am going to talk about the Automation orchestration layer for Cisco and Arista which can push the policies around the network automatically and many other features to have the best customer experiences.

Most of you working with Cisco DNA center or with the Arista Cloud Vision as a part of next generation networks. The goal for Cisco and Arista are same to provide the automation in the Campus or enterprise networks.

Below is the image showing the architecture with Cisco DNA Center and Arista Cloud Vision. The purpose of both is to provide the Automation, Assurance, Telemetry and ease operations for the campus or branch environment.

Cisco DNA Center
Cisco DNA is the architecture and DNA center is the management portal with all the features to automation, telemetry, Authentication, analytics. Cisco DNA is the enhanced version of what the Cisco launches earlier APIC-EM.

With Cisco DNA Center, you apply policy to users and applications instead of to your network devices. Automation reduces manual operations and the costs associated with human errors, resulting in better up time and improved security.

Assurance then assesses the network and uses context to turn data into intelligence, making sure that changes in the network device policy configuration achieve your intent.

Features of Cisco DNA Center
  • Intuitive, automated workflows to design and provision the network infrastructure
  • Ability to define user and device profiles and policies- ISE
  • Ability to define highly secure user and device access and network segmentation
  • Software image management, including patch management
  • Device inventory and configuration
  • Third-party integration with open REST APIs

Integral Part of DNA Center
  • Cisco ISE- AAA or Tacacs+ authentication process
  • Cisco NDP- Analytics and Telemetry with Network Visibility
  • Cisco DNA Center: Automation, Policy Push, Topology, Plug n Play, Zero touch Deployments, Path Trace features.
Supporting in SD-Access which worked on VXLAN with Trust-sec solution and LISP protocols. Creating the LAN network with Fabric to have the segmentation and even micro-segmentation within the network.

We can deployed Wired and Wireless solution within the same fabric in SD-Access and can be managed with single DNA center which is centralized automation and management systems.

Arista Networks- Cloud Vision
Lets talk about the Cloud Vision first. Cloud Vision is the part of Arista Networks showing the capabilities of the network automation.Cloud Vision platform is a software suite of services that deliver further operational simplification of the Arista physical infrastructure

Monitoring and provisioning is controlled centrally with pre-integrated tool sets for provisioning, change management, network-wide upgrades & rollback, network monitoring, network virtualization, and visibility services.

Cloud Vision actually brings a modern approach to network telemetry and a replacement for legacy polling mechanisms.

Cloud Vision Analytics engines and Cloud Vision Telemetry Apps take full advantage of the state streaming infrastructure of EOS and NetDB to give Arista customers an unprecedented level of visibility with a state-based view of the entire network, across private, public and hybrid clouds.

Features provided by Arista Cloud Vision
  • Centralized Managed the LAN network
  • Controller Integration with third party APIs
  • Topology Abstraction and Telemetry
  • Macro-Segmentation in the network
  • User Security with AAA authentication services
  • Play and plug with network rollback features
  • Open API integration
Cloud Vision is a VM based solution for which we required Compute platform. The Compute basic requirements for the cloud Vision is :
  • Cloud Exchange
  • CPU Core: 4 Core( Minimum ) and 8 Core ( Recommended)
  • RAM : 8 Gbps Recommended
  • Storage Space: 4 Gbps (Minimum)

Cloud Vision Portal Compute Requirements
  • CPU Core: 8 Core( Minimum ) and 16 Core ( Recommended)
  • RAM : 32 Gbps Recommended
  • Storage Space: 1 Tbps (Recommended)
